Record the care log: meals, naps, diapers, mood and notes
Record each child's day as it happens: meals and bottles, diapers and potty, naps, mood, notes and photos. Families see the entries you mark visible in their child's daily report.
Who this is for
Room teachers and aides in a childcare or afterschool room. Directors can do the same in any room.
Step 1 — Open your room's Activities page
Select Rooms in the left rail, then your room. In the room's toolbar, select the star icon. The page is called Activities: a tile for each child, a Whole room tile, and a toolbar with Lesson plan and schedule, Observations, Care log, Medication Administration, Incidents and Check-In/Out.
Watch out: the More menu also has an item called "Activities" (under Media). That one is an activity library for schools, not the care log. Use the star icon in the room's toolbar.
Step 2 — Pick a child and what to record
Tap a child's tile. A panel opens with the care tiles Diaper, Meal, Mood, Nap, Note and Safe sleep check.
Step 3 — Fill in the entry
Each tile opens a short sheet headed "Entry for" and the child's name.
- Meal: choose the Meal type (Bottle, Breast milk, Breakfast, Morning snack, Lunch, Afternoon snack, Dinner or Snack), an Amount with its unit, and the Food items. Tap foods under From today's menu, or type one and tap Add.
- Diaper: Wet, BM, Wet and BM, or Dry, and Used the potty if it applies.
- Mood: Happy, Calm, Energetic, Tired, Fussy or Sad.
- Nap: the time the child Fell asleep. Still asleep is on, so the nap stays open until you end it.
- Note: a note and a photo.
Every sheet ends with Notes, Add a photo, the Visible to parents switch and Save entry. Visible to parents is on by default. Turn it off for an entry only staff should see.
Record for the whole room at once
- Select Care log in the toolbar. Pick the type: Meal, Diaper, Nap, Mood or Note.
- The sheet says "Entry for" and the number of children. Fill it in once.
- If one child had something different, open Different for one child before you save.
Safe sleep checks
While a child is napping, the Activities page shows a Sleeping now strip with a countdown to the next check. Tap Checked after each visual check, and End nap when the child wakes. If a check is late, the strip says it is overdue.
Troubleshooting
- Save entry is not visible. The sheet is tall. Scroll down inside it.
- A parent cannot see an entry. Check that Visible to parents was on when you saved it.
- The toolbar is cut off. On a smaller screen the last items, such as Check-In/Out, are off to the right. Scroll the toolbar sideways, or widen the window.
