Authorized pickups and custody restrictions at check-out

Modified on: Thu, Oct 29, 2026, 7:19 AM

Bloomz checks who is collecting each child. At check-out, staff or the kiosk pick the adult from the child's list. An adult who is not authorized cannot be chosen, and an adult under a custody restriction is blocked.

Who this is for

  • Room teachers and front-desk staff who check children out.
  • Directors and office staff, who are the only ones who can override a custody restriction.
  • Parents, who want to know who can collect their child.

Who is on a child's list

Each child has guardians and approved pickups, such as a grandparent. Each adult shows as Authorized pickup or Not an authorized pickup. You can see the list from the child's panel on the Extended Day board (center More menu → Extended Day).

Step 1 — Check a child out

  1. Open the room's Check-In/Out list (the room's star icon, then Check-In/Out), or for the front desk, the center's More menu → Extended Day.
  2. Tap the child, then Check Out.
  3. Bloomz asks Who is collecting the child, and lists the approved adults.
  4. Pick the adult who is there, then Continue to sign.

Step 2 — When a custody restriction applies

If an adult may not collect the child, the dialog shows a red Custody Restricted banner. That adult is greyed out and cannot be picked.

  • A room teacher sees "You don't have permission to override this restriction." Call the office.
  • Office staff and directors see Override (office only). An override needs a reason, and the reason is saved with the check-out.

Watch out: Check-Out All is not allowed in a childcare room, because every check-out must name the adult collecting the child.

FAQ

  • Does the kiosk enforce this too? Yes. A restricted adult cannot check a child out at the kiosk, and the kiosk never shows the restriction to other families.
  • A parent wants to add a grandparent. Ask the center's office to add them to the child's approved pickups.
