Set staff-to-child ratios (Washington preset) and require a signature at sign-in
Tell Bloomz the staff-to-child ratio each room must keep, and Bloomz shows at a glance whether a room is in ratio. You can also require families to sign at every sign-in and sign-out.
Who this is for
Center directors. Room teachers see the ratio status in their room.
Step 1 — See a room's ratio
Open the room's Check-In/Out list (the room's star icon, then Check-In/Out). At the top, a card shows the status: for example "Warning - Need 1 more staff member(s)" with "Staff 1 / 2 required · 9 children · Staff:Child Ratio: 1:7", or "Good - Enough staff members".
The count uses the staff who are clocked in and the children who are checked in right now.
Step 2 — Open Attendance Settings
On the same list, select the three-dot menu at the top right, then Attendance Settings.
Step 3 — Set the ratio
- Capacity is the most children the room may hold.
- Required Ratio is a single ratio for the room, for example 1:7.
- Ratio by age group lets the ratio follow each child's age. Choose Washington (WAC 110-300) to use the Washington table, Custom to write your own, or None (single ratio). Check the table against the current Washington rules before you rely on it.
With age groups, a mixed-age room needs enough staff for the youngest children in it. A child with no birth date counts at the strictest ratio, so add birth dates to children's health profiles.
Step 4 — Require a signature
Switch on Require signature at sign-in and sign-out, then select Save. From then on, a sign-in or sign-out at the kiosk or by staff needs a signature. A parent who checks in on their own phone has already identified themselves, so they do not sign again.
Watch out: a setting made for the whole center is the minimum. A room can be stricter than the center, never looser.
Troubleshooting
- The room shows out of ratio, but staff are there. Check that each staff member has clocked in. See Staff clock in and out, and the Classroom staff log.
- The ratio looks too strict. Check that every child has a birth date. Children without one count as the youngest age group.
